SR   Labia Minora Reduction    Lexington, KY I am writing this brief response to an issue regarding the treatment of labial hypertrophy. My daughter who last year approached me with a problem was affected by this entity.  It was extremely difficult emotionally and physically for my daughter on many fronts.  First, she was extremely uncomfortable due to chronic irritation and chafing in the area. This required changing of her underwear quite frequently, at times resorting to pads to try to keep the areas from rubbing. It was also difficult for her to approach me regarding this issue. I too, despite being a dermatologist was uncomfortable in discussing this but I knew I could not use the easy way out and say "talk to your mom". After seeing the discomfort that my daughter was experiencing, we both decided that something needed to be done.  We had no success with the recommendations provided by the area gynecologists so I took it upon myself both as a physician and father to pursue further treatment. My daughter too felt that surgical intervention was needed.  We saw Dr. Moore in Atlanta for an evaluation and my daughter was very comfortable with his approach and bedside manner. I was also pleased with his caring attitude and professionalism. The surgery was scheduled and the worse time in my life was saying "I love you" to her in the O.R. just before she was anaesthetized.  The waiting lasted a lifetime but she did extremely well. Post operatively, Dr Moore was always available and went above and beyond and actually visited us at the hotel we were staying at just to make sure all was going well. I cannot stress enough the need for surgical intervention in these young women who must live with the physical and psychological stigmata of labial hypertrophy. Today my daughter is attending college at a prestigious University in Nashville--we both share the same feeling about the surgery: it had to be done. We also share the greatest respect for Dr. Moore and his staff for treating us with dignity and the utmost care.  Thank You. Doctor Derm.
